Between 2006 and 2008, FC Luzern re-established itself in the Swiss Super League after promotion. In the 2006/07 season, under manager Ciriaco Sforza, they finished 8th, securing their top-flight status. A highlight was reaching the Swiss Cup final, though they narrowly lost 1–0 to FC Basel due to a late penalty. The following season, 2007/08, saw improvement as Luzern climbed to 6th place in the league. Striker Mauro Lustrinelli was instrumental, netting 14 goals to become the team's top scorer. However, their Swiss Cup journey ended in the Round of 16.
