The 1996/97 season was one of Grasshopper Club Zürich’s most iconic. On the European stage, they made serious noise in the Champions League, going head-to-head with Ajax, Auxerre, and Rangers — and winning three matches, including a legendary 1–0 away victory over Ajax with a rocket from Murat Yakin. They didn’t progress past the group, but they earned respect across the continent. Domestically, they finished third in the championship round, with Kubilay Türkyılmaz leading the charge. It was a season of big nights, fearless football, and GCZ at their most memorable.
