During the 1988/89 season, Alex Germann represented FC Wettingen during the club’s greatest era. Wearing No. 3, he helped the Swiss side qualify for the UEFA Cup, where they faced Diego Maradona’s reigning champions Napoli. Wettingen earned an impressive 0-0 draw in the first leg before taking the lead in Naples, only to suffer a heartbreaking 2-1 defeat after a highly controversial penalty ended their dream European run. Those matches against Maradona and Napoli remain the most iconic in the club’s history.
