Under new manager Ersun Yanal, they secured the championship three matches before season's end, finishing with 74 points from 23 wins, 5 draws, and 6 losses, scoring 74 goals and conceding 33. Moussa Sow led the team's scoring with 16 league goals, while Dirk Kuyt contributed 10. Despite domestic success, their European campaign was marred by a UEFA ban due to a match-fixing scandal, leading to exclusion from the Europa League after a Champions League qualifying defeat to Arsenal. This season marked their 19th league title, matching Galatasaray's record at the time.
